In November 2008, SyENERGY started up the first large Ecogate MASTER SRL System in Canada at Miralis Inc., a premium wood cabinetry manufacturer. Miralis has 3 dust collectors (250, 150 and 40 HP) and wanted to increase production without having to install an additional dust collector. With Ecogate's technology, they kept the same number of dust collectors, and reduced energy consumption by approximately 50%, despite adding about 20% new production machinery. Annual electricity savings amount to 650,000 kWh and $50,000.
ECOGATE eliminates needless energy consumption by shutting air flow to inactive workstations when they are not producing and by controlling fan speed in accordance with actual demand, while making sure that minimum air velocities are maintained throughout the system to ensure safe performance.
SyENERGY provided full support to Miralis in obtaining grants totalling more than $140,000 from Hydro-Quebec and Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency, resulting in a project payback of just over 1 year.
